The app tells me that I'm going to reach the 100-variants limit!

Wide Hello to you! ๐Ÿ˜

While setting up your offers, you come across the error "You can't exceed 100 variants".

Unfortunately, this can happen, here's how to do it.

If you prefer to have the explanation in video you can watch it below ๐Ÿ‘‡

How WideBundle works

To understand the problem you first have to understand how WideBundle works

On Shopify you can't cumulate promo codes and that's one of the reasons we created WideBundle. Unlike other bundle apps, WideBundle doesn't use Shopify's promo code system to create offers.

So this allows you to offer discounts when the customer picks up multiple products while giving them a promo code to offer shipping, for example.

And to create this system, we decided to use the Shopify variants system (What is a variant on Shopify?)

The offer on WideBundle becomes an option of the product just like the color or the size of a product.

So if you sell a product available in 2 colors (White and Black) then your product will have 2 options: An "Offer" option and a "Color" option.

If you want to create an offer "2 products bought = 1 product offered" for this product, WideBundle will create all the corresponding variants.

Here are the variants that will be created:

Variant #1 : (in case the customer takes 3 black products)
Offer : 2 products bought = 1 offered - Color : Black, Black, Black

Variant #2 : (in case the customer takes 3 white products)_
Offer : 2 products bought = 1 offered - Colors : White, White, White

Variant #3 : (in case the customer takes 2 white products and 1 black product)_
Offer : 2 products bought = 1 offered - Colors : White, White, Black

Variant #4 : (in case the customer takes 2 black products and 1 white product)_
Offer : 2 products bought = 1 offered - Colors : Black, Black, White

As you can see, 4 variants have been created corresponding to all the combinations of 3 products that a customer can buy.

What is the 100 variant limit?

Now that you know how WideBundle works, it's important to say that a product can't have more than 100 variants on Shopify.

So if you want to sell WideBundle offers that contain too many products or too many colors or even too many sizes, the number of variants generated will be well over 100.

This is because WideBundle generates all possible combinations of option values for a product.

For example, if you have an offer with 10 products called "9 products bought = 10th free", and this product is available in 5 colors: Blue, Pink, Red, Black and White.

Then WideBundle will have to create all possible combinations of 10 products.

We want the customer to be able to buy 10 "Pink" products, so a variant will be generated for that.

We also want the customer to buy 5 "Pink" products and 5 "Red" products.

And the list will go on and on! Exceeding the limit of 100 variants.

What is the solution to not exceeding the 100 variants limit?

The only solution is to offer less choices to your customers.

1) Reduce the number of products in your offer. Instead of offering 10 products in an offer, offer only 3. This way there will be fewer combinations to create.

2) Reduce the number of choices for your options. If your product is available in 10 colors, try to offer only 3

3) Reduce the number of offers. If you have 5 offers for your customers, try to limit them to 3.

That's the explanation for the 100 variant limit! ๐Ÿ˜
